Cairo Cats Cattery offers Middle Eastern Maus.  Although these cats are not registered, they are offspring of cats that were born in the Middle East.

Moza (stud) and Shahira (queen) are Egyptian Maus that were imported from Cairo, Egypt and Jadeed (stud) is an Arabian Mau imported from Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

Our newest addition, Kiki (queen), arrived from Cairo in May 2009.

Each of these cats was imported with the help of the Egyptian Mau Rescue Organization (EMRO).

The Egyptian Mau is well known and believed to be descended from the sacred cats of Ancient Egypt.  Their ancestry goes back about 3,500 years.

The Arabian Mau is a lessor known breed that was recently recognized by the Middle Eastern Cat Society, which is affiliated with the World Cat Federation.

A Mau is the only naturally occuring spotted cat.  It bears the "M" mark on its forehead, sometimes called the "scarab mark" after the symbol considered divine by the Ancient Egyptians.

For information about Egyptian Mau Rescue Organization (EMRO), see http://www.emaurescue.org (check out Latest News for a short article about EMRO's co-founder visiting Cairo Cats Cattery).
